| Cereria Terenzi was established 40 years ago in Cattolica, in a space of 16sqm, upon the enthusiasm of its founder, Evelino Terenzi, who, through innovation, continued a family tradition: his father, Guglielmo, participated in the foundation of a waxworks that produced devotional and paschal candles for churches. Initially, Evelino worked with his father and mother, Luigia, but later found his own interest: that of manufacturing birthday candles. His first successes can also be attributed to the invention of a special kind of wax which, for the first time ever, made candles much more resistant to bumps, but above all to the idea of producing candles that could be used with food without causing any health risks. At this point, it was decided to use food-grade paraffin wax, thus increasing beyond measure the safety levels of candles. An innovative move, at a time when attention to environmental and health issues was nowhere near what it is today. From that moment onwards, the company grew until becoming the main waxworks in Italy and one of the most important in Europe, offering work to scores of people. Alongside birthday candles, other candle products such as smoke-eliminators, mosquito repellent, aromatherapy, interior home decoration, but also oil lamps, candelabras, massage candles have been developed. Now, at the helm of the company, in San Giovanni in Marignano, just a few kilometers from Cattolica, are Evelino’s children, Paolo and Tiziana, who perpetuate the founder’s original spirit of profound respect for this antique and noble craft whose origins disappear from sight into the depths of time. |

Paolo and Tiziana made a conscious decision to continue along the path of respect for the environment, employee and consumer health. Because, as Tiziana Terenzi, head of creativity and design, says: “a candle is beauty; and you can’t create beauty if you do not create well-being. Beautiful things have to be good things, too”. For this reason, over the years, the Cereria has received many awards, including the award for “Crescita Responsabile” (Responsible Development) which is presented to businesses that stand out for their ethics, awareness of social issues and protection of the environment, as well as gaining entry into the Banca delle Eccelenze Italiane (Bank of Italian Excellence) for promoting the concept of “Made in Italy”. Recognition and awards are undoubtedly important signs of appreciation; for the Terenzi siblings, however, as becomes quite obvious to anyone who hears them talk about company history, their greatest satisfaction is knowing they are following in the same footsteps of fairness and correctness that their father and founder, Evelino began years ago, and his parents before him: pioneers of antique and noble craftsmanship, modernised through use of more innovative technology and reinforced by sound ethics and environmental awareness, dignity of the worker and constant conservation of the territory. In the land of motors and mechanics, technical ingeniousness also turns to creativity as an intense expression of functional design enriched by an untiring passion for research and innovation.
